Auntie Virgil

Thursday, December 24th, 2009

We recently spent a day with Shari’s great aunt Virgil.  She is 93 and still pretty lively for someone of that age.  We warned her before her visit that while she was with us I wanted to grab my camera and capture some images of her.  She really seemed to enjoy being the center of attention and was happy and laughing at several of the images.  From that session a couple emerged as some of my all time favorites.

One is a close-up of her face, the tales told from her skin are tremendous.  The other is from a series where I had her hold a bible along with some beads and a cross.  I used an extremely shallow depth of field and it created an image which we are planning on printing out as a poster and giving it to her as a birthday present.

From this experience both Shari and I have had the idea we should do this same process for more elderly folks in our area.   We have an old folks home here and could (easily we think) set up for a day and share the power of stopping time within the lens of a camera.
