For this evening I venture out into the fullness of dark only to find it interrupted by light. A glowing white cold light, raining down on everything in sight. I know not what to do so I raise my weapon of chose and shoot at it, hoping in some small way to rid the comforting darkness of this incessant brightness…

The weekend of November 26th and 27th we attended the Miss Minnesota and Miss Minnesota Teen Pageant to cheer on our friend and most amazing actress/model Libby Rose! She rocked the pageant and was one of the semi-finalist in the Teen Pageant. Way to go Libby!

During the two days we took a series of images to commemorate the occasion.

We know Libby will be hugely successful in anything she does in the future and we were sure to get her autograph so we can frame it and hang it on the wall!

We can’t wait for your next pagenat now!

On Wednesday November 16th, Dominic James was born. He weighed in at 8 pounds, and was 20.5 inches tall! Everyone is doing well and savoring this incredibly joyous moment I their lives.

Look out Dominic, your mommy loves the camera and soon we will be there to start your modeling career…

10 Days Left!

This evening one of our young friends stopped by and wanted to take the before of a before and after series celebrating getting her braces off. We took a series of images, some of them using a macro lens to get right up and personal with the savory mechanics. She didn’t want me to post any of those showing all the salvia bubbles in their glory. She has only 10 days of braces left!

So, like any other good photographer, I ,are sure I got plenty of funny faces during or time together. This particular one makes me think she is sick of my antics and just wants to kick my ass. I played around with it a bit in Lightroom to give it that gritty look and make it something worthy of posting for her.

Shooting this series made me realize just how many of lives moments go by that could be marked by a photoshoot. I wonder if I should start marketing to Orthodontists for a before and after series of their patients?

The First Snow.

Today clouds rolled in carrying enough and cold and moisture to start dropping the fun white stuff on the ground and all around. I thought I saw a flake or two a few days ago, but nothing that accumulated.

This batch has been falling all day and has produced enough volume to cover us in our first white blanket of the season. Time to snuggle in for winter and start planning some exiting winter shoots!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Most of us know someone who is affected by cancer. From the day you hear the word “Cancer” it can be frightening and defeating. It is a moment in time when you cling to family and friends for their support and comfort. For the lucky ones who beat the disease, the closeness forged during that time can last for a lifetime.

This photoshoot was a tribute from our model Janine to her mother LouAnn, who is herself a Breast cancer survivor. Both mother and daughter were present at the shoot and joined in the collaboration to create the series of Breast Cancer images in our support of October, Breast Cancer Awareness month.

Checking the stats at the end of October, this image had the highest views of any other image on our website. A fitting salute to Janine for wanting to put together this shoot dedicated to her mom. Katie Lands Another!

Katie McCollow does it Again!! She is featured in the latest Schneiderman’s “Oh, we are not rich, our furniture just makes it looks that way” Ad Campaign.

Besides from being an Actress Katie is also a Model, Painter and Author – apparently she went back for a second helping on the day they handed out creativity.

If you haven’t seen the commercial on tv it is available on Youtube.

Great Balls of Light!

I stumbled upon the website http://www.denissmith.com.au of Dennis Smith in the land of down under. He has an amazing story of finding photography to help relieve the stressors of his job to making the transition to photography as a career. In the process he has created a new style of painting with light, Balls of Light. If you haven’t seen any of images you should take a moment, smell the rose and take in their beauty.

I was so inspired that I thought I would give it a shot. How hard could it be, set up the camera on a tripod, set for a long exposure, spin a light around… Well it is a lot harder than it looks to get everything correct. My first few attempts didn’t work at all. Finally I got one image that at least looked something like a ball of light. Creating one that has a single point at each axis has proved to be most difficult to reproduce. I am going to try and create more of these images as time and my sleep cycle permit and see if over time I can perfect the technique.

The Swan Invasion…

The amazing beauty of nature will never cease to amaze me and every time I discover something new (at least new to me) I am reminded how little I have seen of our world. I recently discovered that right in my own back yard between November and March a large gaggle of Swans take up residence in the waters of the Mississippi in Monticello MN. What a wonderful opportunity to observe one of our more celebrated birds…. Oh yeah I took a few shots from the hip too!
